UAE Olympic Committee Hosts Workshop to Review Electoral Regulations and Central Electoral Appeals Regulations

The UAE Olympic Committee organised a two-day workshop at its headquarters in Dubai, attended by representatives of national sports federations and clubs, to review the electoral regulations and the central electoral appeals regulations.

At the outset of the workshop, Mohammed bin Darwish, Executive Director of the UAE Olympic Committee, welcomed participants and conveyed the greetings of Faris Mohammed Al Mutawa, Secretary General of the Committee, along with his best wishes for the success of the workshop and for participants to derive maximum benefit through a detailed explanation of the regulations and their implementation mechanisms.

The workshop forms part of the Committee’s ongoing efforts to strengthen governance and transparency and to unify electoral procedures across sports federations and clubs, in line with the regulations approved at the UAE Olympic Committee’s General Assembly meeting held in February.

It also aims to support sports federations and clubs in applying regulatory frameworks in accordance with international best practices, ensuring the integrity and soundness of electoral processes.

Dr Mohammed Fadlallah, Legal Advisor to the UAE Olympic Committee, opened the technical session, emphasising that the regulations are designed to uphold the principles of equality and independence in electoral processes within sports federations and clubs, while reinforcing efficiency, transparency, and accountability. This is achieved through standardising procedures and electoral systems, strengthening the role of general assemblies, and clearly defining roles and responsibilities across relevant organisational levels.

The workshop also included a review of the unified regulation governing the formation and mandate of the Electoral Appeals Committee, which operates in accordance with international best practices and in line with the Olympic Charter, the rules of international sports federations, the Committee’s statutes, as well as relevant legislation and governance frameworks.

Over the two days, the workshop witnessed strong engagement from representatives of sports federations and clubs, with open discussions enabling participants to raise queries, receive clarifications, and examine the provisions of the regulations in detail, contributing to a clear understanding and effective implementation.

For his part, Mohammed bin Darwish underscored the importance of organising such specialised legal workshops in light of the rapid   developments within the Olympic movement, noting the Committee’s commitment to developing comprehensive regulations covering all aspects related to elections and appeals within sports federations.

He added that the workshop was organised for sports federations, alongside a similar session held with the participation of sports clubs across the UAE, to review the same regulations and enhance awareness of their importance among all stakeholders within the Olympic movement in the country.
