70,000 participants in the activities of the eighth edition of the National Sports Day.

  • Planting the Ghaf trees and establishing many sports and community initiatives.

  • Awareness events and health and medical initiatives for the participants of the event.

The National Olympic Committee, in cooperation with the General Sports Authority, organized the main event of the eighth edition of the National Sports Day in Dubai at the headquarters of Shabab Al Ahli Club, Al Nahda branch in Dubai, with the large community participation that witnessed the presence of various age groups as well as a number of public and sports figures and the media.

The number of registered participants on the National Sports Day website at the end of the eighth edition exceeded 70,000 participants, with 500 activities spread across the country's several emirates.

The event started with a walking march from the main entrance of the club with the participation of the Musical Band Dubai Police, where the march is presented by H.E Saeed Abdul Ghaffar Hussain - Secretary General of the General Authority for Sports, Sheikh Salem Al Qasimi; Chairman of the National Sports Day Executive Team and Member of the Executive Office of the National Olympic Committee, Eng. Azza bint Suleiman, Assistant Secretary-General of the National Olympic Committee for Administrative Affairs, Major General "M" Nasser Abdul Razzaq Al Razzuqi, President of the UAE and Asian Federations and Vice President of the International Karate Federation, and Antar Marzouk, director of Shabab Al Ahli Football Academy.

On the sidelines of the event, the Ghaf trees were planted at the club's headquarters, and a new initiative was launched to collect used sportswear in support of the objectives of the Year of Sustainability, which is adopted by the event's eighth edition with a variety of activities and events.

In addition, the Al Ahly Club's sports hall hosted a variety of activities and events for school students, such as fitness shows, football, basketball, and volleyball match, and the Olympic Committee team won the National Sports Day Cup in the football competition.

On the sidelines of the National Sports Day activities at Shabab Al-Ahli Club, the Ministry of Health and Prevention and several health service providers provided a range of tests and instructions to the participants, and also distributed awareness booklets highlighting methods to prevent various diseases.

His Excellency Saeed Abdul Ghaffar Hussain said: "The National Sports Day reflects the widespread interest in consolidating the sports culture in society in line with the directives of our wise leadership to promote the presence of sports as one of the most prominent factors of soft power, in addition to make sport as a lifestyle and urge all segments of society to participate in various sports.

H.E Saeed added: "National Sports Day ensures the ability of the sports sector to perform an effective role in supporting commitment to government directives by urging sustainable practices and educating athletes and various segments of society about the importance of sustainability and ways to promote commitment to it, on the basis of daily sports activities, in addition to consolidating effective cooperation between sports sector institutions, government entities and private sector institutions in order to contribute to the improvement of the sports sector”.

Brigadier Mohammed Humaid bin Dalmouj Al Dhaheri, for his part, Secretary-General of the Office of His Highness the Minister of Interior and President of the Police Sports Federation, stressed that the Ministry of Interior is keen to effective participate in the National Sports Day, which is held this year under the slogan "The UAE Unites Us. He added "In accordance with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, we are keen to represent the events with the concept of "sports sustainability", in which we adopt sports ideas and initiatives embodying the civilized aspect of the country and including the concept of sustainability that is based on appropriate tools and physical strength such as bicycles that serve the environment”.

He state that the Police Sports Federation, which is in charge of organizing sports events at the Ministry of Interior, organizes seasonal events and dedicates this day to be a celebration of sports in all sectors of the Ministry and the General Headquarters of the Police by organizing workshops, lectures and sports events that suit this day and to remind of the importance of sports in the lives of members and to improve their physical and psychological abilities, indicated that the Police Sports Federation aims to strengthen relations and partnerships with all sports institutions and federations in the country for the success of this National Day.

Nasser Khamis Al Marri, Director of Local Events Department at Abu Dhabi Sports Council, expressed the Council's pride in participating in the National Sports Day, in order to achieve the ultimate goals of the major national event, which consolidates the principle of "Sports for All", by community sports, fitness sports, and various challenges, which witness the participation of all segments of society, and school students at various educational levels.

He added: The events include Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Al Dhafra, with all the clubs and sports facilities of the three cities, with a total number of 20,000 participants, including children under 18 years old, youth from 18 to 25 years old, adults from 26 to 50 years old, the seniors over 51 years old, in addition to the people of determination.

He stated: The clubs, sports institutions and facilities of the Council have been circulated to contribute and participate in the celebration of the National Sports Day, by various games, such as athletics, cycling, bow and arrow, football, basketball, volleyball, table tennis, rugby, ju-jitsu, golf, judo, tennis, hockey, and badminton.

On Thursday, 2-3-2023, the National Service and Reserve Authority participated in the activities of the National Sports Day, in accordance with the vision of H.H Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to establish a national sports day open to all segments of society to urge all social segments to participate in various sports activities, as all sectors in the country celebrate this day by investing in movement, sports, community, educational and competitive activities to embody the unity of cohesion between all segments of society of different ages to reflect the extent of familiarity and mixing between multiple cultures in the United Arab Emirates.

Through participation in this day, the National Service and Reserve Authority aims to arise sports awareness, spread the culture of interest in sports health, and urge the application and adoption of sports activity as a lifestyle by practicing various interesting and useful sports in all training camps around the Emirates, including jiu-jitsu, swimming, bow, bicycles and long walks to ensure that sport is an integral part of the military lifestyle.
