H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohamed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of the National Olympic Committee, Chairman of the High Committee for the National Sports Day Initiative stressed that the National Sports Day and its slogan "The UAE Unites Us" has become an event that supports all national initiatives and programs approved by our wise leadership by presenting ideas and proposals that promote these initiatives from a sports and community perspective, thus transforming its objectives into a concrete reality, and celebrating its successes annually with broad participation from all segments of society.
H.H indicated that the eighth edition of the National Sports Day initiative as well as the announced sporting events promoting the concept of "sustainability" reflect the keenness of the National Olympic Committee and all work teams to interact with H.H Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, who declared 2023 as the Year of Sustainability and lunching a high-quality events serving this supreme direction, which carries with it many aspects related to sustainability and its importance for the UAE and its global efforts in this important file.
H.H also stated that in the previous editions, the National Sports Day has been associated with a number of major initiatives and events aimed at establishing the principles and foundations of the UAE based on peace, affection and brotherhood; as the activities of the event's fourth edition coincided with the Year of Tolerance and the country's hosting of the Special Olympics World Games “Abu Dhabi 2019”, which clearly contributed to reflecting the values of coexistence among all members of society, which is being achieved once more by promoting national initiatives, confirming that the sport is the most effective way to ensure various societal concepts that benefit of all levels.
H.H argued all members of society for participating in the activities of the National Sports Day and benefit from the programs of events and activities spread in the UAE, which were initiated by all public and sports institutions, entities and authorities, expressed his confidence in the success of the eighth edition of the event to be added to the honorable record and the numerous accomplishments witnessed by the previous seven editions.
The activities of the eighth edition of the National Sports Day will begin tomorrow, Thursday, in different emirates of the country, with 50 main events, along with various other activities in all games, air and marine sports, as well as walking, running and many sports initiatives.
The main event in the Emirate of Dubai, will be held at Shabab Al Ahli Club, Al Nahda branch, will witness a walking march from the entrance of the club to the gym with wide community participation, as well as the participation of the Musical Band Dubai Police and Mounted Police. On the sidelines of the event, the Ghaf tree will be planted at the club's headquarters, and a new initiative will be launched to collect used sportswear in support of the objectives of the Year of Sustainability, which is adopted by the event's eighth edition with a variety of activities and events.
The event includes sports training and competitions for football, basketball, volleyball, and badminton, as well as a football match for club employees and workers, and a football championship with a cup system for the participating teams, with medals awarded at the end of National Sports Day.
The National Sports Day will also witness a variety of activities in different emirates of the country, as the main events will be held in Abu Dhabi Cricket Club, Sharjah Police Officers Club, Al Safia Park in Ajman, Mangrove Beach in Umm Al Quwain, Emirates Cultural and Sports Club in Ras Al Khaimah, and Fujairah Corniche in the Emirate of Fujairah.
His Excellency Dr. Ahmed Belhoul Al Falasi, First Vice President of the National Olympic Committee and Chairman of the Executive Office, praised the efforts of the National Sports Day initiative's executive team throughout the last period, under the guidance and supervision of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, in order to achieve the initiative's objectives of raising awareness of the value and importance of sports activity sustainability and its direct role in preserving the health and safety of society from all contemporary diseases and risks resulting from lack of movement.
Dr. Ahmed Belhoul Al Falasi added that the participation of some entities in the event for the first time is a clear indication of the volume of interaction and interest in leaving a positive imprint in this sports phenomenon, which has a national character since its launch in 2015 under the guidance of H.H Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. He said, "We are pleased that the National Service and Reserve Authority announced its participation in the activities of the Sports Day and targeting an important segment of the country's people, namely the youth, from what our wise leadership always emphasizes the need to invest in this age group. In addition to the participation of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Community Development in a range of activities in conjunction with the event, affirming that it is not limited to specific groups, but is directed to the whole community, including citizens, residents and all the different nationalities, which number more than 200 nationalities, all of whom live in harmony in the UAE”.
