NOC’s Technical Committee Reviews Strategy for Dakar 2026 and Los Angeles 2028 Olympics

The Technical Affairs Committee of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) held a comprehensive meeting on Wednesday morning in Dubai. Attended by the Technical and Sports Affairs Department of the NOC and representatives from various sports federations, the meeting reviewed the stages of the strategy aimed at preparing athletes for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games and the Los Angeles 2028 Summer Olympics. These events, along with other upcoming competitions, will be key opportunities to refine the abilities and enhance the performance of Emirati athletes.

His Excellency Nasser Al Tamimi, NOC Board Member and Chairman of the Technical Affairs Committee opened the meeting alongside His Excellency Abdulaziz Al Salman, NOC Board Member and Chairman of the Planning Committee. Al Tamimi emphasized the importance of preparing promising generations to take on the responsibility of representing the UAE and raising the national flag at international competitions.

“This initiative aligns with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai and President of the National Olympic Committee,” Al Tamimi stated. He added: “It also reflects the NOC’s commitment to advancing the Olympic movement, its principles, and values, through collaboration with national sports federations and public bodies. Our aim is to foster a competitive spirit among athletes by employing scientific methods that will improve their performance, skills, and physical and mental capabilities,” he added.

Attendees discussed the comprehensive strategy for the Dakar 2026 and Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, targeting athletes born between 2008–2011 and 2010–2014. The strategy covers multiple aspects, including athlete selection and development through talent identification and intensive specialized training. It also focuses on physical training, psychological preparation, preparatory international participation in collaboration with relevant federations, technical and tactical preparation through performance analysis, medical support, nutrition, administrative and financial coordination, and securing necessary financial support.

The meeting also reviewed the sports event agenda leading up to 2028, which includes three Olympic events: the Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina in 2026, the Youth Olympic Games in Dakar that same year, and the Summer Olympics in Los Angeles in 2028. These major events will be preceded by various key tournaments between 2025 and 2026, including the Asian Winter Games in Harbin, China, in February 2025; the West Asian Games in Iraq in April 2025; the Gulf Beach Games in Oman in the same month; the World Games in Chengdu, China; the Asian Youth Games in Tashkent, Uzbekistan; and the Islamic Solidarity Games in Saudi Arabia later that year. In addition, the 2026 Asian Games will be held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.

His Excellency Nasser Al Tamimi highlighted the importance of reviewing plans aimed at enhancing athletes’ performance in all individual and team sports. He called for adopting best practices in athlete development to elevate their technical and physical readiness. Continuous coordination with the federations is essential to establishing mechanisms that identify talents and support national teams with athletes capable of competing and winning medals. This approach aligns with the NOC’s goals and the National Sports Strategy 2031, particularly in discovering and nurturing sports talents.

Al Tamimi also noted that the Technical Committee, in coordination with the Technical and Sports Affairs Department of the NOC, is constantly working to develop comprehensive plans that address athletes' needs and help them progress in their careers. He mentioned that several initiatives and training programs will be launched in the coming period to prepare athletes for the busy schedule of events leading up to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
