Rashed bin Humaid: The General Assembly of the National Olympic Committee is a solid foundation for a fruitful national sports journey

The General Assembly of the National Olympic Committee held its regular meeting this evening, Thursday, in Dubai, chaired by Sheikh Rashed bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Vice President of the Olympic Committee, and attended by H.E. Dr. Ahmed Al Falasi, Vice President of the Olympic Committee, Head of the Executive Office, H.E. Fares Mohammed Al Mutawa, Secretary General of the Committee, representatives of members of the General Assembly, and a number of media outlets.

 

During the meeting, the General Assembly of the Committee approved the final account, the administrative report for 2023, the auditor's report, the estimated operational budget for 2024, and the estimated budget for sports participations for the same year, in addition to approving the membership of the UAE Luge Federation for membership in the Olympic Committee.

 

The Committee also approved the program of sports tournaments for 2024, which includes the First Gulf Youth Games hosted by the UAE during the period (April 16 - May 2), the Thirty-Third Olympic Games in Paris during the period (July 12 - August 11), the First Gulf Indoor and Combat Games in Riyadh in September, and the Sixth Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Thailand in November of this year.

 

Sheikh Rashed bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Vice President of the National Olympic Committee, affirmed that the General Assembly of the Olympic Committee has provided a solid foundation for a fruitful national sports journey for the Olympic movement in the United Arab Emirates since its establishment in 1979, remaining the primary supporter of all its decisions, initiatives and programs that have, in turn, enhanced the country's position and presence in major sports events and occasions.

 

Sheikh Rashed bin Humaid Al Nuaimi added that the National Olympic Committee, since its early steps and with the support of the wise leadership, has been keen on formulating innovative methods and building long-term relationships to ensure progress toward a prosperous future for the Olympic movement and all its components, applying the principles of participation, experience exchange, and benefiting from expertise. This has had a profound impact on shaping the Olympic scene in the country and effectively contributing to the decision-making system through membership in various relevant continental and international Olympic institutions.

 

Sheikh Rashed bin Humaid Al Nuaimi pointed to the role played by the National Olympic Committee in preparing and educating generations on the importance of spreading the principles of the noble sport that are in line with sound societal behaviors and practices, as it is a direct path that aligns with achieving the vision and ambition of the UAE's leadership in promoting the foundations of cooperation, friendship, and peace, which doubles the responsibility of the Committee and all its departments and divisions in continuing efforts to introduce the Olympic movement and its objectives as an effective tool in instilling diverse concepts and values.

 

The Vice President of the National Olympic Committee called for rallying around athletes during the upcoming period, which will witness several important forums, whether the First Gulf Youth Games hosted by the UAE with the participation of 3,500 male and female athletes during the period (April 16 - May 2), which represents a strong station in terms of its timing preceding major tournaments and events, or the age group participating in it, or the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, in which UAE athletes will face the challenge after the successful qualification of 3 sports to ensure participation and competition on behalf of the country, with the possibility of increasing the number and participating in other games.
