Salma Almarri Wins Hammer Throw Gold at GCC Games in Doha


The UAE delegation raised its tally to 39 medals at the 4th GCC Games – Doha 2026, comprising seven gold, 10 silver and 22 bronze medals, in a haul that underscores the strength of the UAE’s presence and the diversity of its achievements across multiple sports.

UAE athletes delivered standout performances in the previous day’s competitions, with the athletics team adding four medals to the national tally. Salma Almarri won gold in the women’s hammer throw with a mark of 52.63 metres, while Mahra Abdulrahim claimed silver in the women’s 400m hurdles in 1:02.76.

Muath Fawzi added bronze in the men’s 400m hurdles in 58.04 seconds, while Alya Almheiri secured bronze in the women’s 3,000m steeplechase in 12:08.73, as the UAE athletics team continued its strong presence on GCC podiums.

In snooker, UAE national team player Mohammed Shehab won bronze, maintaining the UAE’s strong showing in cue sports at the Games. The UAE bowling team also added another bronze medal in the team event, further strengthening the country’s overall medal tally.

Mousa Al Balushi, Secretary General of the UAE Fencing Federation, expressed his pride in the outstanding results achieved by the national team during its participation in the Games, where the team won seven medals, comprising one gold, three silver and three bronze.

He affirmed that the achievement reflects the progress of UAE fencing and represents the outcome of sustained work and the significant efforts made by the male and female athletes, as well as the technical and administrative teams, throughout the preparation period.

Al Balushi extended his sincere thanks and appreciation to the UAE national team athletes for their honourable performances and high fighting spirit during the competitions. He also praised the major role played by the technical and administrative teams in providing an ideal environment that contributed to these positive results.

He also commended the continued support provided by the UAE Olympic Committee and the important facilities made available to the delegation during its participation, which had a significant impact on the success of the mission and the team’s medal haul.

Al Balushi concluded by thanking the Organising Committee of the 4th GCC Games in Doha for the excellent organisation and warm reception. He affirmed that the Games were delivered to a high standard that reflected professionalism in managing the competitions, wishing continued success for GCC sporting events in a way that supports the development of sport.
