The Executive Office of the National Olympic Committee has approved the nomination of his excellency Sultan bin Sheikh bin Mejren member of the Executive Office of the Federation of Arab National Olympic Committees as head of the UAE's delegation participating in the fifteenth Arab Games in Algeria for the period from 5th to 15th next month. Our national chess player Salem Abdel Rahman has been named to carry the UAE's flag at the opening ceremony.
Also, the committee's executive office approved the nomination of Ahmed Al-Tayeb director of the committee's Technical and Sports Affairs Department as a director of the delegation. Represented by the National Olympic Committee, the UAE is participating in the 15th edition of the Arab Games in 15 games with 131 athletes comprising 80 male and 51 male players.
During the tournament, the UAE delegation will compete in 15 games namely: women’s volleyball, men’s and women’s athletics, men’s boxing, men’s judo, men’s and women’s swimming, men’s and women’s karate, men’s and women’s badminton, men’s and women’s cycling, men’s and women’s weightlifting, men’s and women’s table tennis, Fencing for men and women, chess for men and women, sailing for men and women, basketball and athletics on wheel-chairs men and women for people of determination (handicapped players).
On this occasion, his excellency Sultan bin Sheikh bin Mejren expressed his pride for having been entrusted with this responsibility in such a large sports event furthering Arab cohesion among all participating athletes and establishing the rules of honest competition and consolidating the values of sportsmanship, in the presence of elite Arab athletes in various individual sports. The tournament is considered a high-level and unique event held at an important time in the agenda of the Olympic and sports movement, given that it is held before the launch of two prominent events: the nineteenth Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, in September this year, and the Olympic Games next summer 2024 in Paris.
Bin Mejren stated that the intensive efforts exerted by all sports federations during the past period have been encouraging by realizing good levels and great results in the name of UAE sport, thanks to the unlimited support and generous care given by the wise leadership to the sports. Hence, the external participation is an opportunity for self- challenge and to give the best in order to reach the desired goals in representing the UAE and raising its flag high on the trophy podiums.
Bin Mejren extended his sincere thanks and appreciation to his highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai and President of the National Olympic Committee for his support and follow-up to our athletes, as well as for his highness' ongoing urging the athletes to focus before competing in events at all levels. Thanks are also extended to Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al-Nuaimi Vice President of the National Olympic Committee, as well as to his excellency Dr. Ahmed Belhoul Al-Falasi Vice President of the National Olympic Committee and Head of the Executive Office for his keenness to provide all capabilities and guidance, making the athletes’ mission successful in various sports participations.
On the other hand, National Olympic Committee's Sports Medicine Committee held a coordination meeting with the medical team accompanying the sports delegation participating in the 15th Arab Games in Algeria. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Abdullah Al-Rahoumi Vice Chairman of the Committee. Various main topics were reviewed and discussed including the details of the distribution of the medical delegation to competitions and games. The UAE's games will be held in 3 different cities. Also, discussions included the medicines and medical equipment to be used during the Arab Games in Algeria. Necessary methods and means were reviewed to discuss how to deal with various injuries according to their classification, ensuring the provision of medical service and prompt care for all athletes participating in the games.
During the meeting, the committee discussed work mechanisms and various medical files of the participating athletes to learn more about the health conditions of all athletes in all games, after providing the sports federations with the necessary information about the athletes. Accordingly, the medical delegation will prepare its plan during the fixed period in order to identify the history of injuries, if any, and the various data related thereto, in addition to discussing carrying out medical tasks from arrival to return dates.
