The elections of the NOC Board of Directors for the Olympic period 2021-2024

  • Olympic elections announced the end of the mandate of the current Board of Directors.

The NOC Election Commission announced the 4 winning candidates for membership in the Board of Directors of the Committee by the Chairman of the NOC Board of Directors for the period (2021-2024). It also announced the names of the winning candidates for membership in the Board of Directors of the Olympic Committee, including 9 members representing collective Olympic sports federations and individual Olympic sports federations, and the seat of the female category. The seat of non-Olympic sports federations of international federations recognized by the International Olympic Committee has been postponed for the first general assembly meeting of the new board of the committee based on what is stipulated in the third clause of Article (50) of the articles of association of the National Olympic Committee regarding vacant positions in the Board of Directors.


This came during the Ordinary Meeting of the General Assembly of the NOC, which was held on Tuesday in Dubai, in the presence of the Vice-Presidents of the National Olympic Committee, Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi and His Excellency Dr. Ahmed Belhoul Al Falasi. The meeting was also attended by representatives of sports federations, as well as several media via videoconference.


Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi began his speech by expressing his pride in this milestone represented by the holding of elections of the NOC Board of Directors, which represents an important turning point in the journey of the National Olympic Movement during the next stage. He allowed the Election Commission to carry out its procedural duties in electing a new Board of Directors of the NOC.

Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi stated that: “The real winner today is our sports sector, regardless of names and names. Everyone participated in this event for the nation in the first place, for raising its national flag high, upgrading Olympic work, and enhancing the levels of its members of athletes, technicians and administrators at various levels. He added that "Today, we are witnessing the beginning of a new phase in the journey of the National Olympic Committee, an ancient sports institution through which our athletes participate in major festivals and events in front of elite athletes from all over the world.

The Vice President of the NOC continued that: “Let me use this occasion to praise the electoral process taking place by the National Olympic Committee, which was conducted with the utmost transparency, impartiality, innovation, and independence in the procedures followed, which is not strange in a reputable UAE sport. We are confident that the new candidates, to whom we wish all the best, and the new board will maintain the level of confidence granted and maintain the results achieved. It will seek to establish a new, innovative path that adds a lot to Emirati sports and promotes and spreads the concept of Olympic culture among young people. Furthermore, the Board achieves the NOC vision of creating a sports community with Olympic achievements.


The Election Commission, headed by Consultant Omar Muhammad Miran, opened the second session, which includes the election of the members of the NOC Board of Directors for the electoral cycle 2021-2024 from the Ordinary Meeting of the General Assembly of the NOC by congratulating His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai, on winning the presidency of the NOC for the electoral cycle 2021-2024. It also congratulated Mr. Faris Mohammed Al Mutawa, Chairman of the Athletes Committee, on winning the membership of the Board of Directors of the Olympic Committee after his election as a representative of the Athletes Committee in the Board of Directors of the Committee.


After reaching the quorum in accordance with the provisions of Article 20, paragraph 15, of the electoral regulations, for the present members of the General Assembly who have the right to vote, the procedures of the electoral process began with the opening of voting for the seats of the Olympic sports federations and then for the seats of females. Voting for the seat of non-Olympic sports federations was withheld because there was no candidate who met the eligibility for candidacy. Voting on the candidates was also opened by His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of the NOC.


In conclusion, the Election Commission, headed by Consultant Omar Mohammed Miran, alongside Consultant Mohammed Abdulaziz Al Maamari, and Consultant Hassan Al Marzouqi, announced the final list of the winning candidates for membership of the NOC Board of Directors for the electoral cycle 2021-2024, where the total number of votes reached 33.

The 4 winning candidates were announced by the NOC Chairman after the approval of the NOC General Assembly, namely; His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai and President of the NOC. The four candidate members were also approved by the Chairman of the NOC Board of Directors, namely Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, His Excellency Dr. Ahmed Belhoul Al Falasi, Hanan Mohammed Al Mahmoud, and Noura Hassan Al Jassmi, for membership of the NOC Board of Directors.

The Election Commission revealed the final list of candidates for membership of NOC Board of Directors from the Olympic Federations, which included 9 candidates, namely; Nasser Mohammed Al-Tamimi from the Judo Federation (31 votes), Ahmed Abdul Malik Ahli from the Tennis Federation (30 votes), Abdul Aziz Al-Salman from the Volleyball Federation (30 votes), Ibrahim Issa Al-Zaabi from the Table Tennis Federation (30 votes), Amal Hassan Boushlakh from the Football Association (30 votes), Mohammed Abdullah Al-Murr from the Athletics Federation (29 votes), and Nabil Mohammed Ashour from the Handball Federation (29 votes) Mansour Jumaa Bou Osiba from the Cycling Federation (28 votes), and Qais Al-Dhalei from the Rugby Union (27 votes). Fawzia Mohammed Fareydoon from the UAE Rugby Union won the membership of the Board of Directors for the seat of women (17 votes).


The NOC Election Commission proceeded to complete the electoral process according to the rules contained in the provisions of the election regulations after ensuring that there were no objections from the voting members. The winning candidates for membership of the NOC Board of Directors for the electoral period (2021-2024) have been announced. The General Assembly of the NOC also witnessed the approval of the minutes of the General Assembly meeting, which includes the election clause.


The Election Commission had recently announced that His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum won the seat of the President. The NOC announced the election of Faris Mohammed Al-Mutawa as Chairman of the Athletes Committee and its representative on the Board of Directors of the Olympic Committee after his re-election by his colleagues to represent the Athletes Committee in the seat of membership of the Olympic Committee. Yousuf Mirza Al Hammadi, Yousef Al Matrooshi and Safia Al Sayegh were elected to the General Assembly of the Olympic Committee in accordance with the Article of Association of the Olympic Committee.

The NOC circulated to the members of the General Assembly of the Committee who have the right to vote in the meetings of the General Assembly the invitation to attend the ordinary general assembly meeting to elect the NOC Board of Directors for the electoral cycle 2021-2024. This meeting reviewed an introductory video to explain how to vote electronically, which will be used during the election of the NOC Board of Directors for the electoral cycle 2021-2024.

The electronic voting time for the election of the NOC Board took 27 minutes and 21 seconds, according to the Election Commission's announcement after the end of the electoral process. Recently, a workshop was held to explain the use of the electronic system to all members who have the right to vote.
