Ahmed bin Mohammed chairs NOC’s Board Meeting, calls for charting integrated corporate strategies

The Board of Directors of the National Olympic Committee has endorsed the appointment of Mohammed ben Sulayem as the Secretary-General of the UAE National Olympic Committee and accepted the resignation of Talal Al-Shenqeti and Saleh Mohammed bin Ashour from the General Secretariat of the NOC.
An announcement to this effect was made following the Board Meeting of the NOC today under the chairmanship of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, President of the NOC. Attendees included HE Humaid Al Qattami, 1st Vice-President and Chairman of the Executive Office, HE Mohammed Al Mahmoud, 2nd Vice-President, and other Board Members of the NOC.
Sheikh Ahmed stressed the importance of implementing common business practices across various authorities and entities in the UAE with the aim of raising the image of the nation in various sporting events. “This drive conforms to the directives of our leaders to provide all means of success for our athletes and build a strong base of talents capable of representing the nation in style,” he said.
“The building of corporate strategies and the full coordination of all efforts will pave the way for realizing the hopes pinned on our athletes. We have every confidence in the ability of our national talents to take the UAE sport to the next level,” added Sheikh Ahmed.
The President of the NOC called for developing innovative ideas in the Olympic field in line with the policies of the nation and stepping up the level of cooperation, sharing of expertise, promoting the noble values of the Olympic movement and building strong relationships with various parties.
The Board endorsed the minutes of the first Board meeting, the Olympic report 2018-2019 as well as the closing account and budget estimates. It also endorsed the external participation programme for 2020-2021 highlighted by the 32nd Tokyo Olympics (24 July-9 August), Asian Beach Games in Sanya, China, and the 3rd Gulf Games in Kuwait next April.
The meeting reviewed preparations for the 5th National Sports Day 2020; an annual event encompassing broad-based participation of public and private entities and community members of all age groups. Activities will be kicked off on March 5th. The meeting hailed the support and care of HH Sheikh Ahmed and the call of a disease-free lifestyle such that the UAE can nurture a healthy generation capable of rising up to challenges. Such a goal underlines the launch of this initiative in response to the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to dedicate one day for practicing sport and physical activities by all community members.
The Board congratulated His Highness Sheikh Nahyan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, on the designation of Abu Dhabi as the leading destination for sports tourism in 2019, after hosting a host of important international sporting events. It noted that such an achievement would contribute to the efforts to consolidate the name of the UAE in the global sports map.
The Board also congratulated the Supreme Organizing Committee of the Special Olympics World Games – Abu Dhabi 2019 after winning the “Shayu” award for promoting human rights in the Gulf states in 2019. The award is granted to civil community organizations as well as public and private sectors to honour their efforts in promoting the awareness of human rights in the Gulf region. It signals the significant role of the UAE in the success of any sporting events, thanks to the vision and support of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces.
